We differ from other consulting firms in that we have developed a network of independent, experienced specialists for referral to address specific client needs. President
Dania is the President and co-founder of Toscano Advisors. She relocated to Portland Oregon in 2018. Her expertise is in the areas of capital campaign planning and management, board/leadership training, strategic planning, fundraising and communication planning; including social media strategy, and recruiting. She has more than fifteen years of experience working with/for nonprofits and commissions such as the Nonprofit Association of Oregon, Portland Waldorf School, Girls on the Run – Portland Chapter, Oregon Historical Society, Minnesota Waldorf School, New Brighton Planning Commission, The Minnesota Council of Nonprofits, Pollen Midwest, Animal Humane Society, the Minnesota Zoo Foundation, International Wolf Center, YNPN- Twin Cities Chapter, Northside Achievement Zone, Headwaters Foundation for Justice, and The Museum of Russian Art. She is a graduate of the University of Minnesota.
James V. Toscano
Principal
Jim has over 50 years experience in nonprofit management. He joined Dania in Portland, Oregon in 2019. His expertise includes: strategic planning, capital campaigns, governance, constituency development and outcomes measurement. After teaching at the Wharton School, he ran the World Press Institute at Macalester College, then served as head of development at the College.He was recruited by the Minneapolis Society of Fine Arts, (the Minneapolis Art Institute, the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, and the Children’s Theater Company at that time) where he was the Vice President for Resource Development and Public Affairs. He was then enlisted by the Minnesota Attorney General to lead an organizational turn-around at the Minnesota Museum of American Art, where he served as president. Subsequently, he went to Park Nicollet Medical Center as the head of research and education for 25 years (naming the organization, “Park Nicollet”).His final role in health care was as president of the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation. He is a past chair of the Minnesota Charities Review Council and has served on over fifty boards and commissions during his career, including the Minnesota Health Care Commission, the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Minnesota Council on Nonprofits, and as Chair of the Medical Education and Research Committee of the State Health Department. A chair and co-chair of the committees that produced the three editions of Minnesota Council of Nonprofit’s “Principles and Practices for Nonprofit Excellence,” he has taught nonprofit management at the University of Saint Thomas and Hamline University’s Graduate School of Business, where he taught resource development and management. His experiences in capital campaigns range from preparation of a capital campaign at Macalester College, to the Minneapolis Society of Fine Arts $40M Heritage Campaign to the International Diabetes Center $14M capital campaign and to the $5M Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation Endowment campaign. He is a graduate of Rutgers College and Yale University and was trained in survey research and interviewing at the Bureau of Applied Social Research at Columbia University.
