Nonprofit organizations increasingly need a long-term roadmap: a strategic plan that systematically outlines the nonprofit’s future direction in program, operations, growth, development and finance. More and more funders, including a growing number of individual donors are not only asking for a group’s strategic direction but asking for the expected impact of the plan, their return on investment.
With Board and executive leadership, we first develop a plan for the multiyear plan based on our extensive experience in this work. Top stakeholders, e.g.Board, leaders, donors, clients, competitors, community leaders and foundation, corporate and government representatives are all interviewed.
From these interactions and intensive work sessions, the plan emerges, including sections on Mission, Vision, Values, Goals, Objectives, Program, Processes, Expected Impacts, Measurement and Evaluation. Detailed operational work plans, e.g. fundraising, are then developed from the strategic plan, with metrics to demonstrate impact and outcomes.
